Netlabel - What is a Netlabel?
A Netlabel is a website that releases MP3 Downloads via a website and where pioneered back in the early 90's.
Usually the downloads on a NetLabel are free and artists dont make any money releasing them under creative commons licenses which tells the downloader what they can and cannot do with the mp3 download itself.
However some net labels are now offering their artists a share in advertising revenue. Whilst this might not be much its still better than being shafted by the many dodgy labels that are running today.
NetLabels have strong links to the demo/tracker scene, these artists in this scene usually used what are known as trackers, which are sequencers than use a scrolling down interface with hexadecimal numbers telling the computer which note to play and which sound source to use.
